VIDEO GAIT ANALYSIS

Why use Video Gait Analysis?

We use this advanced form of motion analysis to assists us in diagnosing complex motion related pathology of the foot, ankle, knee hip and lower back. There are three basic stages to the human gait cycle, and it is impossible view the detail of this intricate motion with the naked eye.

With computerised video gait analysis we are able to break each second of time into tiny segments (frames), allowing detailed assessment. Our integrated software allows us to further manipulate the images obtained to calculate kinematic angulations (motion of body planes) of the leg, ankle and foot and then print them for you to take home. In additional, all video and still-frame images are saved to our advance multi-media server for reference and review purposes, allowing instantaneous comparison with different shoes, or changes over time.

Video gait analysis is particularly useful in helping to diagnose conditions associated with running or sport, as well as painful foot and leg conditions that are termed ‘overuse’ in nature. This assessment is routinely performed by our specially trained podiatrists during this form of consultation.

Stage 2 – Midstance

Analysis of rearfoot / STJnt mechanics, midfoot / arch collapse, angulation of the rearfoot, and timing of forefoot load

Stage 3 – Propulsion

Analysis of rearfoot mechanics, degree of leg rotation, angle of foot during propulsion, timing of heel lift and toe from which propulsion is initiated
